Stephen is best know as the first Christian martyr. I prefer to remember him for his life rather than his death.
"They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit;"
We named one of our sons Stephen. I pray that he in particular will become a "man full of faith and the Holy Spirit" but it is a state to which we can all aspire.

His death was pretty kicking though - martyred for preaching the most glorious sermon ever. C'mon!
You have to agree that most people know about his death and the few words about his life are usually overlooked. Emulating Stephen's life is a good goal and most of us do not have the inclination to preach a good or even a mediocre sermon. Yes I agree it is an excellent sermon but his life was equally remarkable.
